Sir Simon Rattle sends a message of support

It is with great pleasure that we received the encouraging words of the acclaimed British conductor and artistic director of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Sir Simon Rattle for this year's festival. It is a great honour for the Festival and fills us up with strength:

Greetings from the UK in the strangest time in our recent history! In the middle of this idiocy, what you are doing in the Molyvos festival is even more inspiring. The idea that music and culture bring people together and are a vital part of a greater healing is a concept deep in my heart.
You are a beacon of light in dark times, and I wish you all courage and success.
With love and admiration

Simon Rattle

1700 Schoolchildren!

The participation of 1700 children in the first phase of the Festival educational programme "Music Key" was impressive. The workshops of the programme took place in December and February in Mitilíni, Kalloní, Lesvos, Greece, Molyvos, Papados and Agiásos, Lesvos, Greece.

It was a great experience for the children and the Festival team too, a living proof that culture has deep roots in the island of Lesbos.

The programme is realised in cooperation with the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education in the North Aegean. The Molyvos International Music Festival warmly thanks mr Aristeides Kalargalis, Regional Director of Education in the North Aegean, for helping wholeheartedly. Warm thanks also to the teachers and representatives of the cultural centres we collaborated with for their substantial contribution.

The educational programme is realised with the kind support οf the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Athens.

Molyvos Travels to Germany

MIMF is presenting 2 events which are going to take place in Berlin (4/4) and Düsseldorf (5.4) under the title “Metamorphoses”, which aim at creating a fruitful and thought-provoking dialogue with the international music audience abroad and raise awareness about the importance of practically supporting the island of Lesbos.

The Molyvos international Music Festival, being at the centre of the upheaval, honours and gives hope and strength both to the people of Syria and to the locals, the islanders of Lesbos. These people are forgotten heroes who sacrifice their daily existence in order to help people in need. They set an example for all of us and remind us what it means to be human. In an attempt to inform and spread this solidarity message 2 events are going to take place in Berlin and Düsseldorf under the title “Metamorphoses”, where the Festival aims at creating a fruitful and thought-provoking dialogue with the international music audience abroad and raise awareness about the importance of practically supporting the island of Lesbos. By deciding to visit this alluring and historically filled island this summer, people can contribute to a beautiful, authentic movement against fear and self- centredness and in favour of openness, empathy and unity.

The events of MIMF in Germany will take place on April 4rth, in Radialsystem in Berlin and April 5th in Clara Schuman Musikschule, in Düsseldorf and will consist of:

  • Live concert by Danae & Kiveli Doerken who will perform Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, piano four hands
  • First screening in Germany of the music documentary “Metamorphoses” filmed by Vangelis Efthymiou. The documentary captures in a vivid and poetic way what took place during the preparation period and the days of the Festival.
  • Presentation of the island of Lesbos by Nikos Bakalbasis, President of the Cultural Committee of the Molyvos Tourism Association
  • First official Presentation abroad of next year’s Programme and Musicians
  • Open discussion of the founders and organisers of the Festival with the audience.
